STAFF EXPECTATIONS

WayForward expects that ALL staff will draw closer to God through serving the body of Christ. It is not only the participants on the trail or the guides leading them that are experiencing growth in their relationship with God and each other. We believe that this is part of the work of serving the body of Christ.

Staff is expected to work together to make the WayForward trip a reality. Success is the sum of many different roles doing their part to accomplish the goals of a WayForward trip. We believe that in our work, no one role is more important than another and that at any point, we may have to step out of our defined role to do something that needs to get done. No task is too small for any staff person!

We also expect that all staff, at all levels will work hard and have fun together. We believe that after a trip or an entire season of trips, the satisfaction of looking back on hard, selfless work, will tell of the overall success at WayForward.

BASECAMP STAFF

If you want to make a lasting impact with your summer months, look no further than WayForward Adventures. Serving on Basecamp Staff will give you the opportunity to grow personally and spiritually, while helping develop an organization that is impacting the world. You will be surrounded with community and learn about living a life of purpose.

Basecamp Staff will serve as leaders at Basecamp and will take ownership in one of the areas described below. You will handle all the logistics and daily operations in your area as well as managing staff under you.

  • Basecamp Cook

What better way to love those around you than through their stomach? Good food plays an essential role in WayForward, both for clients and staff. The kitchen is the hub of Basecamp culture! The Basecamp Cooks will oversee the weekly process of preparing all client and staff meals. In addition to daily staff meals, each trip will enjoy a welcome dinner when they arrive at Basecamp, breakfast and lunch the following day, and a celebration dinner the night they return from their trip. The Basecamp Cooks will maintain an accurate food inventory and assist with food ordering to ensure all meals go as planned. No previous cooking experience necessary, only a willing and teachable attitude.

    Trail Food Packer

Do you love working behind the scenes to set others up for success? The Trail Food Packers are responsible for packing all client meals that are served on trail. They will ensure each meal is properly packaged, proportioned, and labeled. Additionally, they are responsible for planning and posting trail menus and maintaining an inventory of all food that is taken on trail.

    Mascot Wrangler + Support Staff

With an opportunity to invest in the next generation, Mascot Wangler plans and executes activities that will shape the hearts and minds of kids on property. Our Mascot Wranglers are responsible for making sure that all kids at Basecamp are supervised, safe, and have fun. When kid responsibilities are not required, they’ll get to work alongside others and assist with community needs.

    Hospitality

The Hospitality Team will take the lead in making groups feel welcome and comfortable during their stay at Basecamp. For the Hospitality Team, details matter! They go above and beyond to make sure our clients feel seen and loved, both through the space they are entering and in interactions with staff. Their goal is to provide a distraction-free space where everything has been thought of, establishing the foundation of trust as a client leaves Basecamp to embark on their journey. The Hospitality Team is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all areas of the lodge and Aspen where clients and guests may occupy during their stay.

    Gear + Transportation Manager

The Gear & Transportation Manager is a client’s champion. There’s nothing like seeing the vehicle pull up to the trailhead at the end of the time on trail! He/she will not only be responsible for safely driving to and from the trailheads, but also for maintaining, organizing, and cleaning all WayForward backpacking equipment. They will keep track of inventory, help with gear repairs, and set out packing stations the morning of each trip. They will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of WayForward vehicles.

    Basecamp Coordinator

The Basecamp Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all operations that occur at the WayForward Basecamp. This includes, but is not limited to, Basecamp food, trail food, hospitality, merchandise, groundskeeping, and day-to-day schedules. This role creates the environment for trips to arrive and feel welcomed and to come off the trail to a sense of celebration and reflection. The Basecamp Coordinator will coordinate all staff and is expected to create an environment at Basecamp conducive to staff maturity and growth.

    Media Director

With a vision to communicate WayForward’s mission to the online world, the Media Director will creatively capture, edit, and share pictures, video, and content that promote the mission. He/she will be responsible for crafting all social media and external communication inline with WayForward’s mission, style guide, and Director’s intent. The Media Director will work alongside WayForward Director to create material to use for various marketing campaigns and initiatives. They will create internal and external media documents to enhance staff and clients understanding of WayForward.

The FSC will ensure that meal costs stay within budget and that each food service department runs smoothly.

BE A WAYFORWARD GUIDE

The heart and soul of a WayForward trip are the guides that lead each journey. Each trip is led by two guides who provide navigation, spiritual content and medical safety for the group.

WayForward Guides will serve with WayForward all summer and will fulfill a role at Basecamp when not on trail. Applicants that have no previous experience will be trained by WayForward Adventures and will get all necessary certifications.

Basecamp guides will be assigned various roles (listed below) at base camp to fulfill when not on trail.
